Ancient Town of Hoi An

We caught another early morning flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Danang. The real destination was Hoi An, which was about a 45-minute bus ride from Danang. This time though, we decided to find out taxi prices to the bus stop before leaving the airport so we didn’t get ripped off again. We caught the taxi, explored Danang a little bit, had lunch and then made our way to Hoi An.

Hoi An was beautiful! It’s a small town with a smaller “Ancient Town”. For some reason, a lot of recent graduates from the United Kingdom come here to get drunk all day... not sure why you’d come all the way to Vietnam just for that. Anyway, the Ancient Town was great and we were lucky that a lantern festival was going on (and I'm pretty sure it was Buddhas birthday that weekend too).

Pretty sure its just a rooster... but looks like Moltres!

Beautiful Hoi An

White rose – supposed to be a famous Hoi An dish.

The next day, I rented a bicycle (1 USD/day) and went around the city. This was a ton of fun as I can say I kind of drove in Vietnam...? I went to some of the old houses and chapels along the way.

I start holding it properly after 14 seconds.

Lol... amazing.

Lol... more amazing

I actually don't even remember what these were called... but they were good. The lady was super trusting too, my hands were clearly full so she wandered off and told me to just come find her later to pay.

So cool

Another panaroma attempt... think my last one was better.

So beautiful

I'm getting good at these panaromas... jk, my buddy took this one.

That night we went to the night market and tried a bunch of street food and we also met a couple of Americans which made for a great eveninng.

On our last day, we went to the nearby marble mountains and caught some awesome views. There were also some pagodas and sanctuaries on and inside the mountains which was cool!

Just outside Hoi An, there were rice paddies, so I rode the same bike (with squeaky brakes, a seat that needed to be tightened and no bell) to check those out. I got a purposely lost and ended up in a local area which had some interesting sites.

Convinced this was part of some secret resort

Drying the rice

Oh and I got a nice shave at some point that weekend.
